Bean Bag Filling
Most people would undoubtedly love to own a bean bag or two for
their personal use. For decades, we all have grown to adore the good
old beanie we have come to know and grown up with. You probably
spent some time wishfully reminiscing those carefree days jumping on
top of your bean bags, right? We all have our share of fond
recollections of our well pummeled and battered bean bags, but did
you stop to wonder what are they really made of?
Understanding and knowing the varieties of a bean bag filling would
help you make a more intelligent choice if you are contemplating on
buying one sometime in the future. Read on and find out more on the
types of bean bag filling that you can choose from.
Traditionally, a bean bag chair if stuffed with polystyrene beads
that provides a light and cushiony feel that you have been enjoying
for years. These beans have the capability to resist compression and
pressure and at the same time easily enable it to mold to the shape
of your body and adjust to any movements you make. This is the
secret of the unrivaled comfort that you can only find in a supreme
quality bean bag.
But how are polystyrene beads made?
Polystyrene or more commonly known as Styrofoam was first
manufactured by the company named Dow. In order to make beads out of
large blocks of Styrofoam, plastics are mixed with other chemicals
to produce an expandable and flexible resin identified as EPS. The
EPS is then subjected to heat causing it to inflate until it will
develop into a very pliant and lightweight beads that are used for
bean bag filling.
The plastics that are utilized in manufacturing the polystyrene
beans come in two varieties, virgin or recycled. A great thing about
the bean bag filling is that it can be made from recycled synthetic
products such as the plastic drinking bottles we commonly use. There
is actually no significant difference in the quality of either
virgin or recycled beads, except for the source of its materials.
But if you prefer uniform sizes of beads for your bean bag filling,
you can choose the virgin beads instead. There is actually an
ongoing debate as to which types of bead are more durable and
comfortable but it essentially all boils down to the individual’s
preference.
However, there is a new variety of bean bag filling that is made
from some high density foam that easily takes up the shapes of your
body and easily returns to its original shape if left unoccupied.
There are some manufacturers of bean bags that are experimenting on
combining polystyrene beads and bits of foam, which would hopefully
give us the best of both worlds. This is certainly great news for
all the certified bean bag lovers out there.
