Boys’ Ballet Programs? Not a Big Deal!

Ballet is not a new dance form.  It has been practiced throughout the world as a form of entertainment since the renaissance, by both boys and girls.  Yes, you heard me right!  Boys do ballet.  So if you are thinking that only girls are accepted to ballet classes, think again.  Ballet, for sure, needs boys.

A lot of boys’ ballet programs are offered today.  I have read a lot of sites out there on the web offering programs for boys who wish to study the basics and learn the principles of this classical dance form.  Also, I’ve known a lot of boys out there who do ballet, and it’s nice to know that although ballet has been stereotyped as a “girl’s thing”, hundreds of boys agreed that it’s not a big deal.  So if you are a guy and dreaming of dancing pirouette someday, then go ahead.  Study ballet!

To further encourage you to do the thing, I have mentioned below some of the brilliant reasons that most boys’ ballet programs hold to keep their boys dancing.  Consider the following:

Reason #1:  Boys need to have other healthy outlets of expressing themselves other than sports.

Learning sports is normal for boys.  But, I believe that there’s nothing more normal for boys than learning how to study ballet as a new way of expressing themselves.  Just like girls, boys have their creative side, and I am sure that this is the number one reason that boys’ ballet programs continue to live despite some of controversies lurking around it.

Reason #2:  Boys’ ballet programs allow young men to develop their sense of poise, presence and style.

The boys’ ballet programs are in the first place considered to teach boys how to express their energies other than the other ways of expressing it.  However, the art of ballet dancing is not just about movements.  There is something much deeper than that aspect, that is, boys’ ballet programs teaches self respect, discipline, knowledge and a sense of creativity that boys will treasure for a lifetime.  It then follows that with the boys’ ballet programs being offered, young men will no doubt attain a sense of poise, presence and style, which can also be useful for their everyday living.

Reason #3:  Ballet being stereotyped as a “girl’s thing” is absolutely wrong.

I guess many of you have heard that ballet is only for girls.  Funny, right?  Well, ballet is not just for girls.  In fact, hundreds of the professional ballet dancers these days are males and they do the art for the belief that it’s just as masculine and physical as all of the other established sports.  So, if you happen to be a male and somehow curious and interested in learning ballet, then don’t be afraid.  Ballet is an interesting art, after all.

Reason #4:  The boys’ ballet programs greatly help to equal out the balance of men and women in the ballet dancing world.

There is one main important thing to note here – ballet needs boys.  Just like the other forms of dance, males are needed in the ballet world, the reason that boys’ ballet programs are out there encouraging young men to enroll, learn and take the benefits of the art.

So that’s said!  Boys do ballet and it’s no big deal!
