Do you need to create authority sites or mini sites for your marketing efforts? Both types of sites have their own pros and cons. Also keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with incorporating both into your overall business plan, either. Each one offers a few unique benefits. But, not everyone does that; so then things like what a person likes come into play. If the whole debate has you wondering which one to go with, then your best option is to learn more about each one. You’ll need this information in order to make a decision that is informed. For example, if you’re targeting a niche like ecobags then creating mini sites about that topic will help you dominate it.
Authority sites and mini sites appeal to marketers with somewhat different marketing approaches. Even when the two types of sites target similar markets, they’ll be doing so in a different manner.
If you have many products you’re promoting within a certain niche, you’ll probably need a larger authority site to do this. The mini site approach would mean setting up a separate site for each product, which can work but is a completely different strategy. Therefore, the strategy you pick has to be based on what you want to sell, and to what portion of the market.
If you want to please Google, you have to stay current with its latest algorithms, the formulas it uses to rank sites based on quality and other factors. Mini sites, or sites without much content, are definitely going down in popularity with Google, which, in 2010, has been favoring authority sites. Just like with pay per click advertising, you will incur a lower quality score if your site is deemed, thin. While it’s still possible to optimize and rank for your mini sties, you’ll have to put more time and effort into it now. Even then, you will not get the same amount of traffic that you could earlier in 2010 with an SEO’d mini site. Unfortunately, that has become a fact of SEO and Google life. For instance, if you would rather create an authority site about say, LED indoor lighting, it would have a better stick rate.
Another advantage with authority sites is the ability to rank for various other keyword phrases. It’s very possible that your site will start ranking for keywords that are synonyms of your chosen keywords. You have the possibility of exploiting those alternative keywords to improve your rankings even further. Analyze the stats for those synonyms, but also try to determine whether you can expand on them to create other keyword phrases to help your rankings. Many established authority sites see this happening to their rankings. Once again, these kinds of results do take time, so be patient.
When we consider everything, there’s no way to satisfactorily decide whether authority sites or mini sites are better. It is almost like comparing apples to oranges because the two site models are so different and unique. Of course, you can look at any two websites and find things in common, but still in this case what stands out are the ways they are different from each other.
So then the question becomes one of what do you prefer to do? You also have to consider your goals when it comes to your website. Authority sites can help you build a sustainable business, but mini sites can be good if you have a specific product to promote. For instance, if you go for a mini site rather than led bulbs an authority site, you’ll be able to gain quicker rankings in Google.
