Atlanta News Sources

Wondering where you can find Atlanta news and information? Well, news about Atlanta’s politics and community can be greatly found through a number of Atlanta newspapers, radio stations, websites, and a lot more sources, like magazines and television. But, for you great interest on this matter, I have mentioned here a short collection of a few of Atlanta’s most popular local news sites, radio stations, newspapers and other media.

Atlanta Newspapers

Read the breaking headlines and community concerns in the city of Atlanta through Atlanta’s local newspapers, including its only daily newspaper the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and some other alternatives like the Creative Loafing, Southern Voice, and Sunday Paper.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution – This is now considered as the largest only daily newspaper in the Southeast, with an average daily circulation of 640,000. It is nice to know that this medium is actually the result of the merger of Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution, two of the long time rivals. They were merged on 2001 and are now published daily under a joint masthead.
Creative Loafing – is Atlanta’s atrenative weekly newspaper that provides extensive local entertainment coverage, community news and issues, including classifieds, restaurant reviews and a lot more interesting facts.
Southern Voice – This Atlanta news source is actually a weekly newspaper that has been serving the gay and lesbian community.
The Sunday Paper – Covering Atlanta news, opinion, entertainment, and other sections from a balanced perspective, this Atlanta news source is basically circulated as a weekly newspaper.

Atlanta Radio Stations

Most of the Atlanta radio stations deliver a diversion from the city’s least attractive feature, which is traffic. News in the area and its suburbs are delivered from the hectic morning drive-time to the often sluggish afternoon rush hour.

96 Rock – usually airs classic and new rock, with The Regular Guys, a morning show, reclaiming the morning slot after a year hiatus due to a FCC-fueled indecency incident that happened on-air.
Braves Radio 640 GST – As the name indicates, this AM station broadcasts live Atlanta Braves games, as well as Atlanta news and talk radio format. Also, in the morning, Tom Hughes does the show, while Rush Limbaugh is in the lunchtime slot. The Kimmer usually comes on in the afternoons to broadcast Atlanta news and play the hottest music.
WREK 91.1 FM – This is actually Georgia Tech’s official radio station, highlighting eclectic and indie music, community programming, and sports coverage of the Georgia Tech’s sports teams.

Atlanta Television Stations

With Atlanta’s local television affiliates, you can greatly find out the latest local Atlanta news as well as community happenings. Here is a list of the currently operating Atlanta television stations:

CNN – This is the Cable News Network, the first 24-hour news channels established by Ted Turner in Atlanta. It is interesting to know that CNN just turned 25 this year, and a lot has changed in the television news world since it first hit the airwaves.
WSB TV Channel 2 – is the city’s ABC affiliate. At this Atlanta news source, Monica Kaufman, a veteran Atlanta TV personality, and John Pruitt anchor the nightly newscasts. There is also David Chandley who usually do the weather forecast; Clark Howard, the enthusiastic consumer advocate; and Chuck Dowdle and Bill Hartman who handle Atlanta news for sports.
